There are so many benefits of learning to write in cursive! Cursive writing has been shown to have a positive influence on children’s spelling, their composition skills, motor skills, and word recall. It has also been shown to support the reading and writing skills of students with dyslexia. Catch on to Cursive is a 36-week, elementary-level course that includes two schedules, so younger and older students will both benefit from the material.

Your student will join Skeeter, Anna, and Susie on a fun writing and fishing adventure. Through full-color worksheets and exercises, your student will learn to recognize and create precise letters. This unique, whole-child approach is a fun and unforgettable way to learn cursive penmanship.

Within the course, your students will:

Earn badges for their work
Complete fun activities and projects to develop muscle control
Review each letter throughout the course
Learn attributes of Christ’s disciples as fishers of men
Grow spiritually
Experience the wonder of God’s creation

Every letter will be covered for three days. On the third day, there is a weigh-in section, and every few weeks, students will participate in a Fishing Derby or Gear Up activities where they review letters they have learned up to that point. This gives a fun way for built-in review and builds up their confidence. Watch for Weigh-In challenges throughout the course so they can complete the challenges.

New American Cursive Bundle (Grades 1-5)

The character Mr. Meerkat is the book’s guide, making learning tasks fun; step-by-step, he shows the way to draw each letter and encourages creativity. There are clear arrow directions for letter creation, and plenty of shaded letters to trace for practice. The book is bound at the top for equal access for left- and right-handers.

NAC‘s simplified strokes and letter forms allow first grade students to truly master beautiful cursive. We have used NAC in our Highlands Latin School, with dramatic results. Every child can master cursive in the first grade, and many of our first graders write better than typical third graders. Learning cursive early ensures that students are not slowed down or frustrated in the upper grades when they are focusing on other subjects, such as grammar and composition.

New American Cursive 1:

Designed with the first grader in mind
Unnecessary strokes are eliminated; NAC alphabet has 26 fewer strokes than the top three most common cursive programs
Letter forms are simplified but retain the classic form for legibility
NAC natural right slant is easier for beginners and left-handers. If the slant is too far right, it can be difficult for lefties. Writing absolutely vertically is tiring and can slow down the writing.
NAC program was created to be simple, clear, and effective. It focuses on accuracy and increasing legibility.
A teaching guide is included. It takes students only twenty minutes of their day to practice in their NAC book.

New American Cursive 2:

Eight-page Teaching Guide included
125 instruction exercises for excellent penmanship development
Practice pages include Bible verses and character-building quotes
Simplified alphabet, unnecessary strokes eliminated
Bound at the top for ease of use by left-handed students
