Donna’s friends Tessa and Nicole are arguing about which of two handsome (and secretly supernatural) young men is more good-looking. They’ve even polled the girls in their class to see who likes which boy. However, the numbers don’t add up, and Donna wants Lennie to find the answer. Lennie’s math teacher comes to the rescue with an explanation of probability and how to calculate the expected value.

This book is Part Four of the Night of the Paranormal Patterns Dyslexia Pack. It tells the fourth part of the story of Lennie Miller and her adventures with the creatures from the Mystical Realm. It is not meant as a standalone book. The seven parts are meant to be read in chronological order to be able to enjoy the complete story.

The school year has begun, and Lennie is making friends. Part of her strategy is to keep the other seventh graders from identifying her as “the math girl,” but when she runs into Donna, she’s pretty sure that label won’t stay secret for long. Donna’s friends Tessa and Nicole are crushing on Nigel and Tony, and they’re fiercely loyal to the boy they have chosen as more handsome. They’ve even polled all the girls in their class to see who likes which boy. However, the numbers don’t add up, which means that some girls must have voted for both Nigel and Tony. How can they determine how many girls in the class like both boys? Donna wants Lennie to find the answer.

Lennie turns to Gil for help with the problem, but neither of them knows what to do. Fortunately, the eighth-grade math teacher helps them out. He teaches them about probability and how to calculate the expected value, which is the average of the possible answers. Lennie and Gil figure out the answer to the problem, and Lennie takes it to Donna—who, it should be noted, has not felt it necessary to reveal to her friends that the objects of their infatuation are not actually human. Although Tessa and Nicole are disappointed not to have exact numbers, Donna is satisfied to know the probable percentage of girls in the class who like both boys. In fact, she explains, she’ll make sure to come to Lennie for all her math problems—a prospect that makes Lennie cringe. How did she get herself into this role anyway?
