Emerson is new at school, and he has all of the usual apprehensions plus one more: he is dyslexic. Fortunately, he’s been assigned to Mrs. Googol-Plex’s classroom, where he discovers that calling numbers by their place value names is a critical step in overcoming his dyslexia in math, not to mention understanding the true concepts behind mathematical reasoning.
Emerson is starting the year at a new school, and he has all of the usual apprehensions plus one more: he is dyslexic, and he struggles with letters and numbers “jumping around” on him. Fortunately for him, he’s been assigned to Mrs. Googol-Plex’s classroom, where he is quickly befriended by Alex and her friends, all of whom love counting (like he secretly does) and all of whom are excited to be a part of the magical classroom that is their teacher’s.
This year the children are learning multiplication, and Emerson discovers that calling numbers by their place value names is a critical step in overcoming his dyslexia in math, not to mention understanding the true concepts behind mathematical reasoning.
