Level 7, the Lens III Level, is the highest level of the MCT language arts curriculum. Building on the previous two levels, it takes children to the most advanced concepts in grammar, vocabulary, writing, and poetics. The writing book is particularly rigorous; the focus has shifted from the “hows” of writing to the “what” of the essay. The poetics book asks children to consider the concept of truth within the context of Plato’s explorations of it. Children who complete this level will be well-prepared for the intellectual and academic demands of college and professional life.

In Level 6, the Lens II Level, the grammar, vocabulary, and writing strands continue to increase in difficulty, building cumulatively on the previous level so that children are steadily reinforcing their knowledge while simultaneously expanding and deepening it. The largest step up is in the poetics book, where children are asked to consider the concept of beauty, particularly in the context of the works of Plato. Children who completed Level 5 will find this level challenging but rewarding; however, there is enough review that even children new to the program will be able to complete it.

Level 5, the Lens I Level, marks a substantial increase in rigor in the grammar, vocabulary, and writing portions of the curriculum. This is the point at which children are asked to perform at truly adult levels. The poetics strand continues to build upon the previous books, introducing increasingly subtle and complex poetic techniques. This level will challenge children as they expand and deepen their understanding of the language arts.
